Dolphins III vs. Adur II - 27th October 2008
Adur II bounced back from their first match loss against the Worthing Sharks to defeat
Dolphins III of Haywards Heath 3-1. Richard, Zhijin, Stuart, Monty, Elise, Tom, Dirk and Neale took their individually-coloured shirts to Haywards Heath to show the cleanly pressed Dolphins that having the same top does not make a team. Stuart and Neale hunted down Dirk for a 2 minute pre-match serving practice; they hoped to replicate the no-nonsense, but highly effective, Dirk flat swerve ball.
The first set was a little slow for Adur and they eventually lost it, even though Stuart’s
new super serve added around 10 consecutive points on the board.
A change of personnel was made at the start of the second set by the Adur captain, Richard. This calmed the nerves and started the Adur train rolling. Neale, like Stuart, managed to use his Dirk serving tips to also clock around 10 consecutive points on the board.
Monty was also beginning to hit top form and the Dophins had no answer to the big man’s leap. Their response was trying to drop balls over the block and into the hole, but Adur filled that hole and never looked too troubled after that. The Dolphins did make it close at the end of the fourth set, but this was mostly due to a lapse of Adur’s concentration.
Monty was deservedly named MVP by the Dolphins’ judges.
